On January 12, 2009, Deputies from the   Delaware County Sheriff’s Office investigated a 2-car fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred at approximately 5:13 pm on State Route 28 in the Town of Franklin.  Mary E. Depaolo, age 57,  traveling south bound on State Route 28, was killed after her vehicle veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle operated  by Michael Diaz, age 43, of Oneonta NY.

Mr. Diaz  sustained severe injuries and was transported by ambulance to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Ms. Depaolo was pronounced dead at the scene by Delaware County Medical Examiner Richard Ucci.

Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by the  New York State Police Troop “C” Collision Reconstruction Unit and Franklin EMS Personnel.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
