Erik Christensen began work for the Delaware County Department of Public Works on July 7, 1987 as a Laborer.  From March 1, 1988 until May 5, 1989, Erik worked as a Bridge Construction Mechanic.  Erik returned to employment with the County DPW on March 3, 1992 and served the County in many capacities such as a temporary Welder at the landfill, a DPW Laborer, Bridge Construction Mechanic and Building Maintenance Mechanic.  On January 1, 2007, Erik was promoted to Building Maintenance Mechanic II. 

Erik started working at the Compost Facility during its construction and stayed on once it was in operation.  His knowledge of the equipment and facility has been a great help in keeping the plant running.  The environment at the plant can be harsh at times, but Erik has no problem getting right into the task at hand.  His dedication to keeping the operation running is shown in his very good attendance record and his willingness to stay until work is completed so that the plant is ready for production the next day.  Erik works well with other employees at the plant and is always willing to help them when needed.

Erik takes pride in his job and is skilled in fabricating walkways, chutes, guards, etc., throughout the plant.    Erik worked on the creation of a fabricated tiller for the Bio-filter that can be used on a Bobcat.  It is the only one of its kind in this industry, works great and has been a very useful piece of equipment in maintaining the condition of the Bio-filter.  With Erik’s talent, this was accomplished with very minimal cost to the County. 

What Erik likes most about his job is troubleshooting problems with equipment and trying to improve equipment reliability to prevent future breakdowns.

Erik lives in Davenport Center with his wife Marissa and has two stepsons, Cody and Jordan.  His hobbies include high school sports, coaching Oneonta Little League Baseball, Oneonta Boys Club Pickett League Basketball, Davenport Youth Soccer and camping with his family and friends.
