Jacob Alvarez worked as a food service
helper, stock clerk and purchasing agent at the Delaware County
Countryside Care Center from February 1, 1982 to November 28,
2004.
On November 29, 2004, Jacob (also known as
Jack by his coworkers) began working for the Delaware County
Department of Public Works as a Motor Equipment Operator. His
excellent attitude and willingness to do any task made him an
immediate asset to the Department. On January 16, 2006, he was
promoted to Heavy Equipment Operator and on July 10, 2006 he was
again promoted to Sign Shop Worker.
The Sign Shop Worker position carries a huge
amount of responsibility. These duties include creating, replacing
and maintaining all road signs on Delaware County roads. Staying
current on all the applicable rules, regulations and information
pertaining to the laws that govern highway signage is no easy task.
Jack carefully studies the numerous publications dealing with
signage law. Wayne Reynolds, the Commissioner of Public Works says,
“I never have to worry that we are not in compliance if Jack has set
up the signs. If there is ever a question, he has the answers and
the proof. This has helped us several times with law enforcement at
accident scenes.”
Jack’s family includes wife Linda, his
children Chris, Jake and Casandra and grandchildren Arista, Andrea
and Emily. His hobby is camping; and his favorite part of his job
is seeing Delaware County.
Jack is an exemplary employee. When he is
needed, regardless of the time, day or night, he will be there to
help the Department. According to Commissioner Reynolds, “We have
interrupted his weekends, days off and even vacation without a
single complaint from Jack. It is for all these reasons that I
nominate Jack for Delaware County’s Employee of the Month award.”
Congratulations, Jack, for this
well-deserved recognition.
