CATHERINE ARMSTRONG

Delaware County Employee of the Month
June 2009

Cathy Armstrong started working for Delaware County on January 6, 2003 as an Administrative Aide for Watershed Affairs.  Over the years, as the Department grew, Cathy’s responsibilities increased and she was promoted to Administrative Assistant on January 1, 2008.

Cathy is responsible for a broad range of office functions including payroll, information and account management, database development and maintenance, monitoring and recording land acquisitions by DEP, and various public relations activities including correspondence, responding to inquiries and scheduling and coordinating meetings.

Cathy was nominated as Employee of the Month because great performance deserves recognition.  She possesses all the positive attributes a department head hopes for:  commitment to the job, dependability, responsibility and productivity.  She has a great sense of humor, and is a highly motivated self-starter and team player.  Cathy is always ready, willing and able to help, which is critical to the success of a department of four employees charged with taking on the many Watershed-related issues that impact Delaware County.  One attribute that stands out more than any other—and one that you cannot teach or force someone to have—is a positive attitude.  When times are most difficult, Cathy’s smile and positive attitude can turn the tide.  Like many people, Cathy has faced and overcome personal challenges and never let it impact her performance or her positive outlook.

When asked what Cathy likes most about her job, she will tell you fighting for the home team.  She enjoys the variable nature of the many issues the Watershed Affairs Department addresses, saying that she enjoys learning and taking on new challenges.  She feels the work atmosphere at One Courthouse Square is a happy one and enjoys camaraderie with her coworkers in Watershed Affairs, Economic Development and Personnel.

Cathy enjoys spending her time with husband Kim, their two children Wade and Kaitlyn, as well as their immediate and extended families.  They enjoy traveling, remodeling their home, gardening, and camping at her camp and future retirement home.  Baking is one of Cathy’s hobbies… for which we are all grateful!  The family are active members of their church, which is an important part of Cathy’s life.

It is an absolute pleasure to work with Cathy.  Congratulations and thank you!
