Q: Who
is eligible to receive Meals on Wheels?
A:
Eligibility criteria for home delivered
meals according to
Delaware County Office for the Aging Regulations:
1.
Age 60 and over who are homebound and
incapacitated due to accident, illness
or frailty; lack of support of family,
friends or neighbors; and are unable to
prepare meals because of any one of the
following:
a. Lack of facilities such as
refrigeration, stove, etc.
2.
Inability to shop and cook for self
3.
Inability to safely prepare meals
4.
Lack of knowledge and skills
5.
The spouse of the homebound person,
regardless of age or condition, is
eligible to receive home delivered meals
when the provision of the meal to the
spouse is in the best interest of the
homebound person.
Q: Is
there assistance available if a senior
or caregiver needs help dealing with
drug or alcohol abuse?
A:
The Drug & Alcohol Council of
Delaware County (ADAC) offers a complete
range of education, counseling and
treatment programs to assist seniors and
their families with substance abuse
issues.
Q:
Where can I find out about Medical
Equipment Loan, personal emergency
response systems or small home
modifications for handicap
accessibility?
A:
Delaware County Office for the Aging has
information and some direction to help
with these needs. Medical equipment such
as canes, walkers, wheelchairs, and
commodes are available for loan.
Personal emergency response systems can
be provided with no fee for those
eligible for this service; and eligible
individuals can get some small home
modification such as grab bars and
railings to make the home safer for
those with disabilities through the
EISEP Program.
