Provides Food Stamps to those who meet income eligibility. Food stamps are used as money to purchase food.

This program provides assistance to clients with filling out the application and can escort the client on the face to face interview or go in the client’s place, if they are unable to go.

Nutrition Advocate can prescreen for Food Stamp eligibility and assist eligible clients in applying for Food Stamps. Can instruct on forms of identification and paperwork required for process, assist with filling out forms, provide transportation and accompany individual to Department of Social Services.

This program offers packages of food at a reasonable cost to
those individuals who need assistance with food expenses. There are $20 and $30 packages which include meat and vegetables. There are also two specials each month.  Individuals can go into the meal site and fill out a form and then food pick-up is the last Friday of the month between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Senior Dining Centers

Hot Meal Program is coordinated through Delaware Opportunities, contact person is Joe Temming at 746-1710. This program is available at the following Centers with a suggested donation of $3.00 for adults age 60 and over and spouse of any age; charge of $4.00 per meal for guests under the age of 60. Contributions are confidential; no one is turned away due to inability to pay. Limited special diets are available with written physician’s prescription. In addition to providing a hot meal, the goals of the program are outreach, transportation, information and referral, and nutrition education. Every effort is made to promote better health through improved nutrition, and to reduce the isolation by offering community activities, food and friendship.

Nutrition education is available via mail and phone to help adults shop, prepare and plan nutritious meals and snacks. Seniors on food stamps can receive nutrition and financial budgeting including food safety lessons in the home as part of the Eat Smart New York Program. Classes & workshops are available to groups on request.

Provides information on selection, preparation and nutritional benefits of food via phone, at nutritional sites, and to those who receive home-delivered meals through a nutritionist contracted with this program. This office also offers the Farmers Market Coupon Program to seniors which allows them $20 worth of free New York State grown produce. Distribution of the booklets for households of eligible seniors who are age 60 or older is done through Delaware County Office for the Aging. For further information please call the office.
